Fortune
favours the diverse, as any ecologist, scientist or economist will
tell you.
Unfortunately, many artistic institutions seem to disagree. In
this together takes twelve makers from a cross section of the
creative community, and throws them all in it together.
Through their work, each maker explores their context within the
traditional understanding of a creative 'discipline.' However with
such a diverse group of 'disciplines' contained in a single space,
this exhibition also creates friction and tension between the different
artefacts on display. Unity doesn't mean uniformity.
This exhibition is brought to you by smiths, Goldsmiths College
Students Union's multi-award winning student media organisation.
Through its live music events, exhibitions, community website and
printed magazine smiths provides a broad multi-media platform for
the creative development of all Goldsmiths students.
In this spirit of breadth, In this together contains work by Goldsmiths
students from many different degree courses and year groups. The
exhibition contains: furniture, installation, documentary video,
graphic design, ceramics, photography, electronic objects, illustration,
jewellery and product design, all united by the simply stated, but
often neglected fact that ultimately, we're all In this together.
