Why strive for common ground? Isn't the on-going act of "art practice" problematic enough for artists, without trying to reframe the context of individual works so they might more easily sit alongside others, particularly when art is already changed by its removal to the exhibition space? Is what we see in the gallery the same work that left the artist's studio? And how is it altered by its place alongside other works that compete for the viewer's attention?
